The Mayor’s Community Safety Awards were established by the City of Thunder Bay in 2010 to recognize outstanding individuals, groups, and organizations that are making a difference in community safety and well-being.
Held annually for over a decade, these awards celebrated the power of local leadership, innovation, and grassroots action in creating a safer and more inclusive Thunder Bay. From youth mentors and neighbourhood groups to organizations reducing violence or promoting mental health, the awards highlighted diverse efforts that strengthen our community.
Over 13 years, the program honoured dozens of champions whose work helped address key issues such as social inclusion, harm reduction, community resilience, and prevention. These stories inspired others to get involved and supported a collective sense of civic responsibility.
The awards were typically presented each fall and became a meaningful part of the City’s broader work on community safety — closely aligning with Thunder Bay’s Community Safety & Well-Being Plan.
In 2025, the Mayor’s Awards will be thoughtfully integrated into the Respect & Safety Awards, allowing for a more unified celebration of the people who lead with respect, compassion, and courage.
